Dealership Operations
Executive / GM Operations
The dealership is one business.
Operating Philosophy
Every department in this portfolio connects to every other one. Sales affects F&I. F&I affects funding. Inventory affects sales. BDC affects showroom traffic. Fixed ops affects retention and used-car velocity. The general manager's job isn't to optimize any one department in isolation — it's to hold the daily operating rhythm that keeps all of them pulling the same direction: forecasting, expense discipline, staffing, and a culture of accountability that doesn't depend on which department is having a good month.
What I Measure
- Departmental forecast accuracy
- Consolidated gross and expense trend
- Cross-department accountability (handoff quality between sales, F&I, BDC, service)
- Manager development and bench strength
- Dealership-wide CSI
- Staffing and turnover by department
How I Manage It
- A defined daily/weekly/monthly operating rhythm — not a meeting schedule that drifts
- Departmental accountability reviewed together, since a win in one department can mask a loss in another
- Manager development treated as a standing priority, not an as-needed response to turnover
- Culture and CSI reviewed as dealership-wide outcomes, not siloed by department
Where Dealerships Lose
- Departments optimized independently in ways that quietly hurt each other
- An operating rhythm that exists on paper but isn't actually followed
- Manager development postponed until a manager is already leaving
- Leadership visible only when a department is struggling, not as a daily rhythm
